Here’s a quick guide to five of the best family attractions to visit while on the Costa del Sol. All of these attractions are easily accessible from the popular tourist resort of Malaga.
A visit to the Aqualand water park (Calle Cuba 10, 29620 Torremolinos) is a great way to cool off. It only takes ten minutes to reach the park from the centre of Torremolinos, or twenty minutes to reach it from Malaga if you decide to hire a car.
Aqualand has rides and attractions to keep the whole family entertained. Thrill-seekers will enjoy the Boomerang and Kamikaze promenade, one of the tallest water slides in Europe, and there are many other slides to try too. If you prefer something a little quieter, you can relax in the jacuzzi or tropical lagoon or take a dip in the surf beach wave pool. There is also a mini-park to entertain the little ones.
You can park your rental car in the parking lot in front of the entrance.
2. Tivoli World Show & Amusement Park
One of the most popular attractions on the Costa del Sol, Tivoli World is well worth a visit during your car rental vacation as it has something for everyone.
It is full of attractions for all ages and is best known for its shows, including flamenco demonstrations and Far West shows. It also has beautiful botanical gardens, a Jurassic Adventure exhibit and the largest permanent model railway in Southern Europe. It takes approximately 20 minutes to drive from Malaga to Tivoli by car and plenty of parking spaces are available at the entrance.
3. Selwo Adventure Park
If you rent a car during your vacation on the Costa del Sol, you can visit Selwo Adventure Park, near Estepona. This safari park is home to over 2,000 animals and once you have parked your car, you can explore the park on foot or go on a safari in a 4×4 vehicle.
Other attractions at Selwo Adventure Park include falconry demonstrations, camel rides, archery and an adventure playground. If you choose car hire, it will take about an hour to drive from Malaga to Selwo Adventure Park.
4. Fuengirola Zoo
For a great day, visit the Fuengirola Zoo, where you can see more than 1,300 animals, birds, fish, and reptiles, including leopards, tigers, gibbons, orangutans, flamingos, crocodiles, and snakes. There’s also a large children’s play area with swings, ball pools, and treehouses, and a Jungle Clearing exhibit, where you can get up close with some zoo residents.
You can have a bite to eat in one of the two restaurants and buy souvenirs at the zoo shop. If you visit the Costa del Sol in July or August, you can explore the Fuengirola Zoo at night as it stays open until midnight. Evening entertainment includes a candlelit dinner and African music and dances some evenings.
