Electronic travel permission, AVE, is the new requirement for foreign citizens who are exempt from the visa and who travel or cross Canada. This is only required if the foreign citizen is moving to Canada by air and not necessary if they are travelling by land. People with a visa to Canada, Canadian citizenship, or permanent residence in Canada do not need an AVE document to enter Canada.
People who need eTA
If a person comes from a visa-exempt country and obtains a work or study permit, he or she will automatically receive an eTA permit when he accepts the application for a job or study permit. U.S. citizens do not need an eTA or visa to travel to Canada. U.S. citizens can visit Canada with a valid U.S. passport. U.S. permanent residents or green card holders require an electronic travel permit (eTA) to travel to Canada and must also carry a green card with them.
If the person holds dual citizenship, that is, he retains Canadian citizenship with at least one other nationality from another country, he will not need an electronic travel permit to enter Canada. But if he is travelling by plane, he must hold his Canadian passport. If the person is a permanent resident of Canada, he does not need AVE Canada. Still, he requires a strong public relations or permanent residence card or permanent resident travel document to travel in Canada.
ETA is a straightforward document to order. You can easily apply online via the Canadian government website where the application is made, at the cost of $ 7. The form takes only a few minutes and once granted; the eTA can be valid for up to five years. An electronic passport is an electronic document and is electronically linked to a person’s passport number. The individual will not receive any eTA physical document from the Canadian government.
The documents required to request an eTA are a valid passport and email address in addition to a debit or credit card. An electronic visa lasts for five years or until the person’s passport expires, whichever comes first. With the fully valid eTA, a person can travel to Canada as much as he wants on short trips, about six months at a time. The information entered into the application is sent electronically to the Canadian Immigration Management Agency, which carries the person to the Canadian AVE via email via the Internet.
Things to Keep in mind
Always carry a passport or other travel document that is valid for at least six months from the date the person arrives in Canada. If someone gets a new passport, they also need a new online travel permit. Once the electronic visa is approved, the person must confirm that the passport number in the electronic passport is the same as the passport number. If it does not match, a new eTA must be obtained.
